One of the earliest or basic modification that can be done to the engine is by changing the oem extractor to a sports/aftermarket extractor. Basically extractor is a part that connect to the engine head to transmit air flow to the exhaust system. It is one of the part in engine breathing tools. They are various types of extractors such as 4-2-1 which mainly gives a good distribution between low end, mid end and high end power. There is also a 4-1 extractor which is short and long, which the short length focuses on low and mid end power while the long length 4-1 gives mid end and high end power (should only be used on a high revving car). For my application, i have opt for a 4-2-1 extractor from Powerzone.
All i can say about this modification, is that it is very worth it. It gives better engine pick-up and smooth power delivery. Powerzone claims that this extractor alone will give about 8% increase in horspower. Very worth it.
The extractor are double coated with chrome and the steel are made of white steel. It is not stainless steel but hey, the price is very wise with rm490 inclusive of installation and with the power increase, yes of the worthiest mod ever!
hello! im using 4g92 SOHC and did a whole exhaust system but using only cap ayam extractor cost rm120.. do u think by changing to powerzone extractor will be alot different? share ur experience? thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi,there will be noticeable gain.NA engine requires lots of modification to gain a lot of power.
ReplyDeletepersonally for me, I am satisfied with the improvement I get from the PZ extractor.
cool! what else can be done to get good respose for my car in ur opinon? but im not going into heavy modifications..just a bit investment for a better ride and response :) thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy 4g91 id auto...suitable 4 2 1 or 4 1?
Deleteextractor, intake, aftermarket filter, plugs, adj cam pulley, piping size.i guess that's all, but it wont be that much, maybe around 10-15hp gain. and dont forget a good set of adjustable suspension if u r into cornerings :)
ReplyDeleteyeah i did all that except for cam pulley coz people said it wont have much effect on standard cams.. how bout crank pulley? did u changed to lightened ones and hows the effects of it? but i heard it will disturb the crankshaft balance of the engine..
ReplyDeleteyup not much effect unless u r going 4 high cam.im using standard crank pulley, not interested to go for the lightened one.erm seriously if u really wanna extract power, u can try mild high cam 268/272deg grinded cam such as powerzone/matspeed, and do ecu rechip/up ur rev cut...it will do wonders...and the best part, its still can be driven daily, no prob at all.
ReplyDeletebased on ur recommendations how much is the budget in RM? hehe..need ur advice and opinions..and what do u think of fuel regulators? is it worth it since my car is still NA..thanks!
ReplyDeleteand have u ever tried bore or use bigget throttle body? Whats the effect and ful consumption? t
ReplyDeletehurm, I think u have to look for people that have far more experience. Im also in the learning process, but from what I know adj fuel regulator is a need if u have mod ur car, example, where when u can rev higher than normal, a good supply of fuel pressure is needed in the fuel rail.
ReplyDeleteAnd about tb, for my old setup im using standard tb/intake, but for my new setup I am using 60mm tb/gsr intake, not sure about the outcome as have not tune it yet...but for me, bigger does not always mean better, why u want to feed ur mouth with big food, if ur mouth is small :)
about the budget:- high cam:-rm1800-rm3000, afr:-rm400, upgrade injectors:- rm150, management (depends whether u want to get 2nd hand or new, 2nd hand e-manage complete about rm800 exclude installation/tuning, new e-manage rm1600 including installation/tuning). its a lot of money. hehe
ReplyDeletethanks bro! so basically on my NA engine, fuel regulator is not a must is it? yeah its alot of money...haha and the PZ extractor does make alot difference after installed on ur car? in terms of acceleration?
ReplyDeleteif u want to rev higher or have done quite bit of mod, get a fuel regulator.yup im satisfied with pz extractor, one of worth mods I have done, the car feel a bit lighter, and improve acceleration. my previous 4g9 setup with high cam, e-manage and pz extractor manage to clock 8.5 secs from 0-100kmh (clocked through RSM), and we r talking about a small 1.5cc engine.
ReplyDeleteso far what ive done is only:
ReplyDeletei) full exhaust system but extractor is cap ayam
ii) voltage stabilizer
iii) performance drop in air filter
and basically thats it.. so whats ur advice, should i install fuel regulator or not?
hello bro..have u heard of Piper brand camshaft?
ReplyDeletewhen u installed the PZ extractor and the high cams...does high cam provide alot more effects compared with extractor? planning on doing one of them for now :) thanks
u don't need fuel regulator yet, but once u install hi cam, u need one. yup ive heard about pipercam, but not sure about the performance.
ReplyDeleteof course, hi cam will wield more power than extractor, a lot more. im now using duratech camshaft, my friend r using PZ, not bad. but it is advisable for u to use piggyback especially if u want to install high duration camshaft.
im planning on installing piper cam coz thats within my budget..but scared that its not good enough and without management it wont be that effective right? im juz deciding whether to take a normal brand high cam or just go for the good PZ extractor.. ur high cam is expensive and a good high cam!
ReplyDeletewhat engine u r using?im not sure if there's a piper camshaft for dohc engine.
ReplyDeletemine is 4g92 SOHC? now deciding either to go for normal brand high cam or go for a good extractor which is from PZ..hehe ur advice sir? and i might not install piggyback
ReplyDeletehmmm...kinda hard...i'll go for both hehe...but as a start up, a good extractor like pz is also a wise investment.
ReplyDeletehahhaa..thats y im asking ur opinion... do u think its wise to straight away go for high cam or i should start with extractor first? which is better in ur opinion? but i wont install any piggyback in future..
ReplyDeletedo step by step, if u r budget constrained, then go for extractor :)
ReplyDeletepipercam is rm 650..extractor PZ is rm 450...so basically cn topup abit je more..hehe thats y im asking u should i straight go for high cam or do the PZ extractor first..ur advice bro? thanks!
ReplyDeleteinstalling hi cam the proper way is not that easy...to make sure u can make full use of it, u have to upgrade other things as well, IMO. for an example, hi cam basically are moving the powerband further, meaning the stock rev cut about 6.5k is not sufficient...so, u must eliminate or up ur rev cut lets say maybe to 8k rpm, hi rev means u have to have a good fuel pressure to support, so install fuel regulator.and if u want to unleash some hidden hp, u need management system. while upgrading extractor wont involve all the things I've mentioned above.
ReplyDeletebut still u can install the hi cam alone, if u think u want to do it that way, but for me, I like to do a proper job for better satisfaction. plus hi cam without proper setup does not necessarily means faster car. horsepower are expensive anyway. the very 1st mod I have done on my car was upgrading the extractor 1st.
cool and thank you for ur explanation! ill decide on it soon! :) btw have u tried Cold Air Intake for ur car..if u did how was the response? I wanna install for my drop in but need ur advice and experience with it :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried CAI, but I've seen a video from youtube called mighty car mods and they did a research about CAI vs open pod vs drop in filter/factory box...the result is that factory box are better...btw im using open pod, thinking to change to factory air box with aftermarket drop in filter...
ReplyDeleteoh really? i was planning on using the drop in with CAI hose connected to the bumper to get cooler air.. see how it works..hehe btw i got a major problem with my car that requires top overhaul and PZ said could top up abit for port n polish...
ReplyDeleteso should i go with port and polish or use the money for extractor? sifu opinion plz.. thanks
im not sifu la, dunno much, still learning, u better sought the opinion from PZ, after all, its ur money :)
ReplyDeleteyeah i did bro but they are busy...in ur opinion should i do the port n polish or go with extractor first ? what do u think..thanks
ReplyDeleteextractor. for sure. :)
ReplyDeletethanks bro! really appreciate it! btw when are u going to PZ to do dyno again? haha
ReplyDeleteone last thing bro...since ure a PZ extractor user, they claimed of saying it reduces fuel consumption up tp 10%...whats ur feedback on fuel consumption after using PZ extractor? is it true..
ReplyDeleteI am not sure about that since there are lots of mods for my engine.so far, the fuel consumption is okey if in normal driving 100kmh-120kmh...if play with rev too much, the fuel consumes more...
ReplyDeleteok bro! thanks alot for ur opinions! btw when are u sending ur car for dyno agian at PZ? ahaha
ReplyDeletewc...huhu not sure about that...the car still have not finished pantang period yet n some things are still not complete...
ReplyDeletehey bro! how u doing? dah send dyno at powerzone.. btw just wanna ask you..if u like to sell off ur powerzone extractor do let me know yeah? ill be the first buyer to buy so
